On Monday, April 21, 2014, an officer for the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department showed up to the school about a situation dealing with one of their counselors, Cecilia Alvarez, age 29, after being called a week ago to investigate.
According to reports, the relationship between the female and Cecilia went on for about a month until the School Resource Deputy and the mother of the victim became aware of the situation.
Sheriff Ken Mascara questioned Cecilia Alvarez about the relationship and revealed that the two did not have a sexual relationship.
During the questioning, Cecilia also told the officer that the relationship was mostly a romantic one. She told him they would arrange meetings through text messages and phone calls. She said she would usually park down the street from the girl’s house and wait to meet her. On one occasion, the two spent the night at the victim’s house while nobody was home. Another occasion Cecilia took the girl to City Place in West Palm Beach.
When the victim was interviewed, she told the officers she was not sure how the relationship began, mentioned there was a touching though nothing sexual, but in her words, “it just happened, and we are both in love.”
Cecilia Alvarez was charged with interfering with the custody of a minor. She is currently released on a bond of $3,750.
