Displeased about his girlfriends choice of working at a bar, Preston Crawford attacked his girlfriend by beating, choking, whipping, burning, and threatening to kill her accusing her of going to bars after work to meet men.
It was a little past midnight when Mariah Bennett was struck in the face by Preston, who was under the influence of alcohol, then started to choke her.
According to the police report, Crawford told Mariah with his hands around her neck, “I am going to kill you.” That is when Bennett lost consciousness and awoke to Crawford whipping her with an electrical cord.
Mariah said when she yelled for help or tried to get up, Crawford would kick her in the stomach and punch her in the ribs while holding her mouth shut. She again lost consciousness, and again, woke up to Crawford punching her in the mouth.
According to the report, Crawford also burned Mariah on the fingers with a lit cigarette before throwing beer on her. He also threw an ashtray at her head and knocked her down when she said she was going to call the police.
When the chance was found, Bennett was able to get to her phone and dial 911 for help while Crawford ran away.
When the police arrived, they noticed Mariah suffered cuts and bruises all over her body and a chipped tooth.
